The Environmental Demography Network (EDeN) is a social science research group dedicated to understanding the complex interactions between humans and their environments AND advancing solutions to help a wide range of populations tackle global environmental and health challenges.

We called our team a network instead of a center because we believe a network of researchers across disciplines and stakeholders across sectors including local communities is the key to addressing the complex environmental, social, health, and policy challenges confronting our world today. 

The concept of 'Eden' suggests a world in harmony. Today, that harmony is threatened by unprecedented stresses from both population and environmental dimensions. EDeN is committed to providing the scientific understanding needed to navigate these challenges in order to help build more resilient and harmonious futures.

Indigenous Peoples Observatory Network: The Climate-Food-Health Nexus

This transdisciplinary project connects Indigenous Observatories of community leaders, decision-makers and researchers to document, monitor and examine the lived experiences, stories, responses and observations of how climate stressors interact with food systems, health and well-being as they play out in real-time and across seasons in 100+ communities of 13 countries.

Thermal Resilience of Sustainable Buildings and Living Environments

By compounding the effects of building and the built environment, the social and behavioral characteristics of households and urban-rural inequality can result in differing levels of vulnerability to extreme temperature events. This research supports multi-scale vulnerability and resilience assessments for use in preparing for extreme temperature events and decision-making related to preparedness, response, and management.

Thermal Resilience Project

Spatial Regression Models for the Social Sciences provides comprehensive coverage of spatial regression methods for social scientists and introduces the methods in an easy-to-follow manner.

Space and geography are important aspects of social science research in fields such as criminology, sociology, political science, and public health. Many social scientists are interested in the spatial phenomena of various behaviors and events.
