Postdoctoral Scholar - Arctic Indigenous Research

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State’s Population Research Institute (PRI) and the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to work with Dr. Guangqing Chi on projects related to the Arctic Indigenous research. 

These projects study climate change impacts on Indigenous community wellbeing, and identify the important assets (social, environmental, infrastructural, institutional) to help them adapt and become more resilient to climate risks and hazards. These projects are interwoven with education, outreach, local community engagement, and international comparison and collaboration.

Role: This position is focused on the climate change impacts on health, food security, and migration, and the cultural aspects and indigenous knowledge of climate adaptation and mitigation.The Postdoctoral Scholar will participate in and collaborate on existing projects. The successful candidate will also have an opportunity to participate in and lead new projects or components of them.

This is a term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of renewal. 

This position is eligible to work remotely within the US.

Education and Experience: This position requires a Ph.D. Fieldwork experience in the Arctic, especially in Indigenous communities is desired. Some fieldwork experience in remote research settings is a minimum requirement. 

Candidates from social and natural science fields are all welcome to apply for this position, but the candidate should be comfortable and able to work with researchers and others across a wide variety of disciplines and perspectives. Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research experience is desired. 

This position requires an individual who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, responsible, collaborative, team-oriented, and creative, with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills as well as research proficiency, and ability to multi-task.
